Paperless Prestart Checklists

Loss of mandatory safety inspection records can have serious consequences. The paperless Prestart Checklist module helps you maintain regulatory compliance and coordinate equipment upkeep. The module holds operators accountable for systematically verifying safety and maintenance items before operation. Pass/Fail information is recorded automatically in the shift database. If a failed item falls within the 'Do Not Operate' or 'Contact Dispatcher' criteria, an Exception will be posted to the dispatcher's screen, and a warning will come up on the operator's onboard mobile device, such as "Steering – Do not operate!"

You can create customized prestart checklists for any type of equipment that has a mobile device, including trucks, shovels, auxiliary equipment, drills, and foreman vehicles. Also, historical reports can be created on a shift-by-shift basis. The Prestart Checklist module offers a convenient way to monitor safe operating policies for heavy equipment. It presents operators with a pre-configured checklist, records their responses, and provides easy-to-use reports. Speed Management

Excessive speed not only endangers personnel but causes damage to equipment. Most mines have safe speed limits, but many struggle with enforcement. The SpeedAlert module makes it easy to establish and maintain a speed management program for heavy and light vehicles at any mine site.

The SpeedAlert module continuously measures the GPS velocity of mobile equipment. As a truck passes through points of interest—a virtual speed trap—SpeedAlert compares its speed with pre-configured upper and lower speed limits, for full and empty conditions. If operators exceed the limit, they are alerted by a message and audible warning on their onboard mobile device, and the dispatcher and foreman can also be notified.

In addition, the SpeedAlert Module compiles, centrally stores, and automatically generates an objective log of overspeed and underspeed events. All of these can be reviewed in either a tabular report or as GPS-events. By reviewing the data, you can determine which trucks, zones, or even operators are susceptible to operation outside of predetermined speeds.

Improved Operator Awareness

Constantly changing mine site conditions, as well as operator inexperience, lead to misrouted equipment and even accidents. The MineCompass perspective helps equipment operators navigate to their destination via the fastest route, regardless of inexperience, limited visibility, or frequently changing road networks.

The MineCompass perspective is a core module of the DISPATCH system. It is the main operator interface on the onboard mobile device, which displays the equipment's current assignment, current operating state, and a message console. The MineCompass moving map display shows the current equipment position and path to its assigned destination, helping improve operator efficiency and situational awareness.

Collision Prevention

A collision between equipment can cause serious injuries, or even fatalities, and can severely impact operations. Using GPS distance technology, and audible and visual alarms, the Proximity Detection module proactively reminds operators to maintain a safe distance from other equipment. Proximity Detection utilizes existing Modular onboard hardware and onsite wireless communications infrastructure, eliminating additional onboard systems mounted in the operator's cab. The module draws from existing equipment records, operator information, equipment operating state, and road topology, to provide context-rich information, extending operators' awareness beyond their own eyes and ears.

One of the biggest challenges faced by heavy equipment operators is limited visibility. The Proximity Detection module helps overcome blind spots, improves spotting confidence, and reduces low-speed equipment collisions. Also, operating around physical hazards, such as misfired blast holes, power lines, steep walls, unstable berms, and underground workings can be very dangerous for operators. By notifying operators of unknown hazards and issuing alarms, the Hazard Detection module mitigates these risks.

Equipment Failure Prevention

Serious safety risks can result from equipment failures, including suspension, tire, or braking systems. By proactively identifying impending failure, equipment can be repaired before hazardous conditions occur.
