About SouthGobi Resources, Ltd. and Ovoot Tolgoi
SouthGobi Resources Ltd. is focused on exploration and development of its Permian-age metallurgical and thermal coal deposits in Mongolia’s South Gobi region. The company’s flagship operation, Ovoot Tolgoi, is already producing and selling coal to customers in China and has proven and probable surface reserves totaling 106.8 million metric tons. The mining method employed at Ovoot Tolgoi is open-cut terrace, utilizing large-scale hydraulic excavators, shovels, and trucks. This allows for productive open-pit mining in the steep coal seam environments native to the mineral-rich Ovoot Khural basin.
