Job Purpose

Applies System Engineering specialties of requirements management, quality control, and configuration management with entry-level responsibilities on product development projects.

Travel Requirements

Travel up to 10% 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Existing Systems Knowledge – Learn the system dependencies and components
  • Requirements Knowledge – Participates in the extraction, organization, and documentation of hardware and software system requirements 
  • Test Planning – Participates in test planning for new system features and regression test planning for existing features. Performing analysis, estimating work, organization, and documentation of hardware and software system requirements.
  • Test Case Development – Develops and maintains test procedures for hardware platforms, product features, and full system deployments 
  • System Deployment – Participates in the installation, configuration, and monitoring of systems comprised of software and hardware for verification and validation 
  • Test Execution – Participates in the execution of manual and automated system test procedures and reports pass/fail results 
  • Defect Management – Work with team on defect root-cause analysis.  Enters details about system defects into defect tracking tool and tracks their resolution 
  • Process Improvement – Follow the process and make suggestions to improve department Quality Control processes and standards 
  • Test Automation – Basic knowledge of test automation framework and execution

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical degree emphasizing Software Quality Assurance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience testing software systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of testing lifecycle, methodologies, and QC practices
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze requirements
  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Experience with defect tracking tools and work item management tools
  • Knowledge of database querying and a few scripting languages (asset)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and attention to detail

Desired Skills

  • Understanding of networking protocols, wired and wireless networking
  • Proficiency in applying principles and practices from International Software Testing Quality Board (ISTQB/ASTQB), certifications a strong plus
  • Knowledge of Scripting Languages (Perl, Python, or equivalent)
